ASE forms coalition government with ANP and IPA

25 August 2017 – Pleston | Newton von Uberquie, who won this August’s executive election as Vorsitzender, has formed a coalition government between the Abeldane Social Ecology, Abeldane National Party and the Independence Party last Wednesday.

Coalition talks began weeks before the election had begun and there were speculation that the Independence Party, or the IPA, may not be included in the coalition government. The ASE, ANP and the IPA were already in coalition in the then-present government of Patrick Renwick, ANP’s leader, and plans to continue the coalition was already at hand but the question of continuing IPA’s partnership within the coalition was at hand.

After the executive elections, the Social Ecology Party had announced their intention to form a coalition government with ANP and IPA to the Emperor and von Uberquie accepted the invitation of the Emperor to form a coalition government. The cabinet proposed below was accepted by the Emperor and appointed them all respectively on 24 August 2017.

Monarch: Stephen I & II (IND)
Vorsitzender: Newton von Uberquie (ASE)
Stellvertreter: Artemis Langford (ASE)
Minister of Cabinet Office: Artemis Langford (ASE)
Genralmemearschall (Minister of National Identity): Stephen I & II (IND)
Chancellor of the Treasury: Nick Kaos (ANP)
Attorney General (Minister of Justice): Nick Kaos (ANP)
Minister of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs: Brandon Wu (IPA)
Minister of Media and Governmental Communications: David Ross (ASE)
Minister of Culture: Edwin Farrar (ASE)
Minister of Homeland and Geographical Affairs: Newton von Uberquie (ASE)
Minister of Orthography: Tarik Karjasari (ASE)
Director of Abelden Intelligence Agency: Artemis Langford (ASE)

Nick Kaos was appointed Attorney General a day later by the Vorsitzender. The Social Ecology Party maintains 7 positions within the Cabinet, ANP maintains 2 and IPA with 1. The Emperor also was appointed to the office of the Generalmememarschall but remains as an Independent.

The coalition had some internal struggles on who was to be appointed for the ministries and who were the best for the said position since ministries were noted to be all inactive or useless. The Vorsitzender, Newton von Uberquie, commented on the question of the challenges that the coalition faced:

The Coalition had been in the works since the last cabinet, as our parties already had a vested interest in working together again. We struggled, however, to find a variety of active cabinet members from every party. It was lucky that our partners seemed to agree with the ASE that our more active party would fare better as the primary contributor to Ministries.

Brandon Wu, the leader of the Independence Party, commented on the situation that his party faced before the election period, saying that members ‘didn’t do anything’ in the party yet ‘active in the [Abel to Dabel] lounge’. Wu had written the entire IPA manifesto all by himself and said that Isaac Reuel, his running mate, was the only one to approve it. Wu added that the IPA ‘can’t survive on it’s own’ and that an ANP/IPA merger is needed because ‘coexisting really serves no purpose’.

Asked about what he thinks on the involvement of the IPA into the coalition, Wu said:

i think the IPA involvement in the coalition is crucial – especially because although we have some of the same ideas as the ANP/ASE, the IPA can still bring our core values of classical liberalism, populism and Abeldane nationalism to the table in government.

And today, the Emperor appointed Horatio Eden, who is the leader of the Rhinoceros Party, as Leader of the Opposition following an advice given to him by the opposition parties.
